Rob Johnson, an Atlanta native, has always been passionate for both the natural and built environments. At an early age, he learned how to swing a hammer and the benefits of hard work. In 1998, after completing the Barney Fletcher School of real estate and receiving his license, he began to utilize his skills and apply his passion for construction in the field. While in school he partnered with Shaun McCollum; renovating and restoring homes. In 1999, Rob joined a National Builder of the Year, John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods as a Finish Manager. Rob learned how to build homes on a production level using the even-flow scheduling system and became very involved with warranty management, quality control and home owner acceptance.
In 2001 after attending SOUTHFACE Energy Institutes Green Building Conference in Atlanta , Greenprints, he soon joined the Southface team. The SOUTHFACE mission is to promote sustainable homes, workplaces and communities through education, research, advocacy and technical assistance. Rob became a project manager in the development and management of the SOUTHFACE residential green building program, EarthCraft House. |

Rob quickly established his role as Field Operations Manager and began training builders and inspectors throughout the Southeast region in the theory and practical application of building science principals that are the fundamentals to sustainable development and healthy indoor environments. As the program grew Rob became Georgia Operations Manager for EarthCraft House and played an integral role in the integration of ENERGY STAR into the Greater Atlanta and Southeast regional residential building market. Rob was also involved in piloting the LEED for homes certification program in Atlanta and the surrounding region. As Georgia Operations Manager Rob managed a team of Atlanta and regional inspectors who certified EarthCraft Homes in Georgia , South Carolina , Tennessee , and Alabama . EarthCraft House has established itself as one of the premier green building programs in the country and has become a blueprint for sustainable design, residential green building/ community development and certification.
In September 2006 Rob partnered with David Goulding, formerly of Comfort Homes, to provide project management, building science consulting, quality control, mold prevention, inspection, and remediation services to serve builders and consumers in the Southeast regional market. In 2007 Rob established a set of green building/ development guidelines for a community in Pensacola of which the developer plans to use as a bench mark for all future regional projects. Currently Rob is completing a 7,600 square foot custom estate for clients in South Georgia . Rob is applying many of the green building theories and practices he had learned and taught while with SOUTHFACE and the EarthCraft House program.
“It is critical that we educate clients and builders alike on the importance of building an environmentally friendly home both for the health of the family who lives in the home and for future generations. Living healthy, consuming less, reusing and recycling water, energy, and materials can be both fun and economical.” It is Robs hope that all people integrate sound environmental practices as a part of their everyday lifestyle and that all designers, builders, and developers utilize environmentally sound principals whenever possible. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” -Lao-Tse <<<back to About Ensign |
